The first direction I took was more clean and wound up feeling a bit too cold / uninviting. The client wanted a more playful and colorful logo so I explored a hand-lettered approach which led me to the final logo.
This inked sketch is from about halfway through the revision process that led to the final logo. From here, I began to simplify the flourishes and find the best lockup for the letterforms.
This was the second to last revision before bringing the sketch into Photoshop to finalize. Keeping the design on paper until I feel it's close to done is crucial to maintaining an organic and natural hand-lettered design. Often the computer can be a hinderance to this, but it is eventually necessary to edit and finalize the logo.
